Matthew Evans

Matthew began Gameshow with Matt.

Beyond Gameshow, in 2021 Matthew was Resident Director with the British Council at Theater On The Left Bank in Kiev and at the Directors Charitable Foundation.  He was previously Associate Artist with Gameshow at Bush Theatre in London.

He has directed That Night Follows Day by Tim Etchells for Forced Entertainment internationally (Lithuania, Ireland, United Arab Emirates). Other credits include The Absolute Truth About Absolutely Everything by Olly Hawes at Camden People’s Theatre, Aid Memoir for Duck Egg Theatre at Pleasance/City University and An African In The Snow at Pleasance/RADA Festival.

He has worked regularly with Katie Mitchell – as staff director at National Theatre, associate director at Hampstead Theatre and Young Vic, Troubleshooter on La Maladie De La Mort at Bouffes du Nord/Barbican/international tour, assistant director on Trauernacht on tour from Festival D’Aix-en-Provence, programming Young Stückemarkt/Theatertreffen 2014 in Berlin. He has also assisted Simon McBurney, Thea Sharrock and Bijan Sheibani at National Theatre, Festival D’Avignon, Young Vic and on tour.

Matthew trained at the National Theatre Studio and for a year with Living Pictures. He has hosted the Young Vic’s work-in-progress night Freshworks since 2009. He has been an assessor for Total Theatre Awards in Edinburgh and Off West End Awards in London.

Matthew has worked regularly with young people and other non-professionals across the country for Gameshow, National Theatre, LIFT, Cycle Confident, Pret Foundation, Faith & Belief Forum and Cardboard Citizens.

Awards include JMK Directors Award, Judge’s Prize at PULSE Festival, Live Lab Award, People’s Theatre Award and a Jerwood Arts bursary.

He is Project Manager at Deveron Projects.
